Turning Point Kids
The children Turning Point work with are from families that are too poor to be able to send them to school. For many of them home is somewhere that provides them with a dusty floor each night to sleep on... but little else. There is often no food in their homes. There is no money to pay the doctor when they are sick.
One in five of these children are orphans, and are looked after by friends or relatives who already have a family of their own.
40% are from single-parent families where most often the dad has died or deserted. However, it’s hard for a mum to find work here, so she may well have to resort to prostitution to try to support her family.
Whatever each child’s home circumstances are like, life for their family is a struggle. Hunger is a constant companion for many, and the lack of food at home drives some to the streets.
Life on the streets is tough, and full of danger. Turning Point is working to try to prevent these children taking that step, and assisting those who already have in returning home.
