You may have been seeing my name around (on the website, Twitter, prayer emails etc.) and wondering, "Who is this Jo Bayley?!", so here's an introduction...

In September 2007, I came out to Kenya to work for a Kenyan Non-Governmental Organisation. To cut a long story short, it was a complete nightmare and I lasted all of two months of my two year contract. Determined to stay in Kenya, I moved on to volunteer for Action for Children in Conflict, a charity which works with street-children in the industrial town of Thika. I spent a year there, working as the charity.s sponsorship co-ordinator. It was a fantastic twelve months where I grew a lot both personally and professionally but, when it came to an end, I felt ready to move on.

I still felt that Kenya was the right place for me to be but at the time I lacked direction. Proverbs 16:9 tells us, .A man.s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.. People have asked me how I came across Turning Point and the answer is, "It just sort of happened." I was looking for a way to stay in Kenya and continue helping the people I felt called to and Turning Point needed someone to help with the fund-raising. God saw the opportunity and made it happen!

Three months in, I have absolutely no regrets. Coming to work for Turning Point as a voluntary fundraiser was one of the best moves ever. I love spending time at the projects and I.m so proud to be a part of the awesome work that is being done in Kibera. I feel really passionately about the projects, which helps immensely when it comes to raising money for them. Economically, times are hard right now and charities are cutting back on their spending. My proposals are often met by closed doors, but when I see the hope and determination that the people in Kibera have, it is motivation to continue playing my part in transforming their lives.
