14 contestants, 4 challenges, 2 judges, 1 week, ONE Winner was what marked the Laini saba apprentice ‘show’ that lasted for a week at the youth center a first one of it’s on.
The week long challenges required contestants to bring out their creativity, innovativeness and witt to emerge winners, with pointers being; Team work, leardership skills, creativity, execution, time management and presentation.
The 14 were divided in two equal groups of seven aside namely Makuti crew and Hakuna matata, with each group chossing their leader for the day to take them through the various challenges.
On day one they were required to make shirt from manila paper with an african theme represnting the ‘ big man’ of africa. Second day a trouser matching the shirt, Day three build a model laini saba center out of cartons and on the forth day a poster advertising Turning Point work in kibera.
The idea behind the week long activity was to encourage the youngsters at the center on the need to work together, bond as well as take responsibility of their actions. This evidently came out as pressure mounted on groups to beat timelines as well as sell their ‘products’ to the panelist based on their presentation and marketing strategy.
Everday each member of the group would vote for someone whom they thought had worked hard to remain in the competition, at the end of the week the person with the highest number of votes emerged the winner taking home assorted goddies from Turning Point and the winning group which convinced the judges equally with their style of work and cohesiveness coming top enjoying assorted goods as well.
At the end of the week Makuti crew emerged winners thanks to their creativity and presentaion style which won them judges accolades. This was surely one of those busy weeks for the youths as they try to out smart each, but also a good ground for blending and embrassing each other as well as encouraging one another with positive criticism.
The challenges equally had storming times as members shifted blame for losing on the day, some threatening to pull out. But all in all it was worthwhile,.
