Faith, Friends and African Toothbrushes

Every now and then we will pray for someone and they will be so encouraged and perhaps surprised to see God answer their prayers that they return several times to share their happiness and to pray together more. We see people’s faith grow and get the feeling they have started to pray themselves with more passion and expectancy. So it has been the last few weeks with John who returned again this morning wanting to thank God for his job and ask God to be with him and for his work to go smoothly.

We have also befriended a couple who sell sticks used as ‘African toothbrushes’. Though we have just prayed with them once, they reported that their prayers had been answered and continue to give us a hearty wave as they pass by selling their wares.

Today we prayed for a tiny three month old baby whose skin was peeling badly. We prayed with a mother whose home had burned down, another mother whose son was on probation awaiting a court hearing, several young men and fathers looking for work. There weren’t many illnesses but we did pray for those with malaria, stomach ulcers, fibroids and high blood pressure.

It is amazing to see the eternal God concern Himself with our worldly troubles, to care and to act on our behalf. We will keep praying that through God’s works in people’s lives He will inspire faith in them and draw them closer to Himself, as He has with John.

That’s really encouraging to hear, we often forget about thank you’s!

Do you think african toothbrushes work better than those funny brush balls we got to chew at the services (motorway not church!).

They were pretty disgusting! I’m certain the sticks would work better than those.
